The sterilization of water in aquaculture aims to destroy pathogenic bacteria and viruses present in the environment. The germicidal action of UVc is well known. UV lamps can be medium or low pressure. They are enclosed in sealed reactors or immersed in open channels. For heavier installations, the use of ozone (O3) is preferred. The highly oxidizing action of ozone destroys pathogenic germs but also oxidizes dissolved organic matter and allows better control of water quality (REDOX potential). There are also advanced oxidation installations which use the combined action of UVc and ozone or an additional oxidant.

AQUACULTURE FRANCE offers comprehensive water treatment solutions for aquaculture and aquariology.

The need to increase productivity, manage health risks, and address challenges related to climate change is driving producers toward the use of recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS).

AQUACULTURE FRANCE operates at every stage of fish farming: from make-up water treatment and rearing tank water treatment to the treatment and partial or total reuse of effluents and waste.

We ensure a high level of biosecurity in the RAS facilities we design. The technologies we distribute are specifically tailored to meet the needs of professionals: simplified maintenance, high-performance equipment, efficient processes, and cost-effective operations.

Closed-loop aquaculture water treatment relies on a highly specific treatment process that includes the following stages:

Mechanical filtration by screening. This stage captures larger particles, preventing damage or blockages in the subsequent system components.
Fine mechanical filtration (sand filters, fixed-bed filters, drum filters, disc filters, bag filters, cartridge filters, etc.) captures finer particles (feed waste, feces), ensuring clear water.
Biological filtration. Specific filters break down toxic nitrogen compounds (ammonia, nitrites) into less harmful compounds (nitrates). These filters use support media that foster the growth of nitrifying bacteria dedicated to this phase of water treatment.
Sterilization phase (UV sterilizers, ozone). Proper sizing of this equipment helps reduce the development of potentially pathogenic agents suspended in the water.
Pumping ensures water circulation through the various filters.

AQUACULTURE FRANCE also operates on parallel treatment loops within the system (denitrification, skimming, dephosphatation). We collaborate with all aquaculture partners.

These systems, known as "Life Support Systems" (LSS) or "Recirculated Aquaculture Systems" (RAS), are specially designed to maintain optimal conditions for aquatic species farming.
