Faivre Drum Filter

Working Principle

1. Inlet / Water Feed
   The loaded water (containing suspended solids) enters the open part of the drum or a feed tank, depending on the configuration.

2. Rotating Drum Filtration
   The drum is a cylindrical structure covered with filter panels (or stainless-steel mesh plates). Water passes through the fine openings of the mesh, while larger particles are trapped on the outer surface.

3. Slow Rotation
   The drum rotates slowly (typically 3–17 rpm, depending on the model), exposing all filter surfaces progressively.

4. Automatic Cleaning / Backwash
   When the mesh becomes partially clogged, a cleaning system (water jets from an upper spray bar) removes the trapped solids. These are then discharged through a sludge outlet.

5. Filtered Water Outlet
   Clean water passes through the mesh and is collected inside the drum before exiting via the outlet port.

6. Control / Activation
   A level sensor or clogging sensor can automatically trigger rotation and cleaning cycles.

Limitations / Considerations

• Removes suspended solids only — does not eliminate dissolved compounds (nitrogen, phosphorus, etc.).

• Overloading with solids may cause frequent cleaning cycles.

• Proper sizing (flow, TSS load, particle size) is essential for performance.

• Use appropriate materials (e.g. 316L or duplex) for seawater or corrosive applications.

• Cleaning system must be correctly adjusted to avoid damaging the mesh.
