Media de filtration biologique MBBR

The MBBR (Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor) biological filtration media is a specially designed support that promotes biofilm development in wastewater treatment processes. Typically made of plastic in the form of small discs or floating carriers, this media provides a large specific surface area for colonization by bacteria that degrade organic pollutants.

Thanks to its free movement within the treatment tank, the MBBR media optimizes contact between microorganisms and the water to be treated, thereby improving the biological efficiency of the system. This process enables significant reduction of organic load, ammoniacal nitrogen, and suspended solids, while ensuring excellent operational stability.

The MBBR system is often used for secondary or tertiary treatment in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants, as well as in aquaculture to ensure optimal water quality.

The protected surface is the part of the total surface that is not exposed to permanent abrasion or continuous washing; it is the area where the biofilm develops.

AQUACULTURE FRANCE offers a complete range of biological media specially designed and adapted for aquaculture, fish farming, shellfish farming, aquariums, and ponds.

Our biological supports are completely inert and perfectly suited for the cultivation of nitrifying bacteria in both freshwater and seawater.

Biofiltration is highly effective for oxidizing ammonia and nitrites present in the rearing water.

The sizing of a biofiltration system is based on the number of fish, the volume of the aquarium or pond, the feeding rate, and the water temperature. From these parameters, we can propose the required media volume and flow rate.

All options are available:

  • Fixed bed filtration

  • Moving bed filtration (MBBR)

  • Trickling filtration

  • Possible automation of backwashes

  • Differential oxygen probe to monitor the biological bed’s operating status

  • Backwash water recycling solutions
