General description:
Natural siliceous sand, washed, dried, and calibrated, designed for biological and mechanical filtration in aquaculture and aquarium systems.
Grain size:
Range: 1-2,5 mm
Type: fine to medium sand
Grain shape: rounded to sub-angular
Bulk density: approx. 1.5–1.6 t/m³
True density: approx. 2.65 t/m³ (SiO₂)
Typical chemical composition:
SiO₂ (silica): ≥ 95%
Traces of Fe₂O₃, Al₂O₃, CaCO₃
Free from organic matter, clays, and soluble pollutants
Mechanical filtration: retains fine suspended solids (sediments, organic debris).
Biological filtration: provides surface area for bacterial colonization (nitrification).
Suitable for pressure sand filters, slow sand filters, or multilayer filters (with anthracite, gravel, etc.).
Excellent specific surface area promoting bacterial growth.
Good hydraulic permeability, balancing filtration rate and fine particle retention.
Chemically inert: does not affect pH or water hardness.
Suitable for both freshwater and seawater.
Filter bed depth: 20 cm at the bottom of the filter
Backwashing frequency: according to suspended solids load and pressure drop.
