A level switch (or level controller) is a device used to detect and control the level of a liquid (or sometimes a bulk solid) in a tank, basin, or pipe. It is generally used to automatically control a pump, a valve, or an alarm depending on the level reached.
Operating principle
The level switch acts as an electrical switch that opens or closes depending on the position of the liquid level.
When a threshold (high or low) is reached, the contact is triggered and sends an electrical signal to a control device.
Typical applications
Automatic pump control (filling or emptying of a basin or tank).
Protection against dry running or overflow.
Monitoring of water levels in treatment plants, fish ponds, or supply tanks.
Example of installation (in a tank or aquarium)
A high-level float controls the stop of the supply pump when the water level is sufficient.
A low-level float controls the start of the pump when the level becomes too low.
These two level switches ensure automatic water level regulation without human intervention.
